About Us > History

Brown Mackie College — Kansas City was founded and approved by the Board of Trustees of Kansas Wesleyan College in Salina, Kansas, on July 30, 1892. The trustees contracted with Professor T.W. Roach to organize the Commercial Department, which was then known as The Kansas Wesleyan School of Business. The College began operation on Sept. 12, 1892.

In 1938, the College was incorporated as The Brown Mackie School of Business under the ownership of Mr. Perry E. Brown and Mr. A.B. Mackie, former instructors at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kansas. By January 1975, with improvements in curricula and higher degree-granting status, The Brown Mackie School of Business became Brown Mackie College. In 2003, the College was acquired by Education Management Corporation (EDMC).

The College operates campuses in Salina and Lenexa, Kansas.
